Green Congregation is responsible for Channing’s observance of the seventh UU Principle: “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part.”

In 2007, we began seeking candidacy for Green Sanctuary status, which required a deep self-assessment of our property, policies and practices. It also called for  formation of an action plan in four areas: Worship and Celebration, Religious Education, Environmental Justice, and Sustainable Living. It addressed family, church, community, statewide, national and interfaith levels.

We achieved certification in 2011, and have continued to encourage our congregation to seek more ways to foster respect for and preservation of our environment through individual and group practice, education, outreach, action and collaboration.
