Honor Earth Day with Channing
Thursday, April 6; Mondays April 17 and 24
7 PM in the Channing Church Parish Hall
In observance of Earth Day 2017, the Green Congregation and the Learning Center will present a mini film festival, featuring three excellent environmental films.
Refreshments will include locally-sourced wine and cheese and fair trade decaf. Freewill donations will be given to the Greenlove Foundation, one of the recipients of Channing’s “Share the Plate” program for April.
Thursday, April 6: “Racing Extinction”
Academy Award winning filmmakers expose the forces that are leading our planet to its next mass extinction, potentially leading to the loss of half of all species.
Monday, April 17: “groundswell Rising”
Going far beyond the subject of hydraulic fracturing, this film is a compelling and optimistic documentary about civil rights, the growing movement to defend our communities from industrial harm, and the tenacious people who are deeply committed to preserving the planet for future generations.
Monday, April 24: “Facing the Surge”
This film documents the tangible costs of sea level rise for the people of Norfolk, VA; home to the largest Naval Base in the country and to thousands of hardworking Americans struggling to adapt to the rising tides and uncertain future. Not just a film about loss and inaction, it also tells the stories of citizens from across the US as they step forward to raise awareness and push the government to solve climate change.
