WORSHIP & MUSIC

Worship at Channing

Channing Church holds one service each week on Sunday mornings at 10:00. The worship service follows a general Protestant-style format with readings from sacred and secular sources, music and singing, a sermon or presentation, prayer and meditation time, though there is a diversity of styles and specific elements throughout the year. We also conduct special services such as Christmas Eve Candlelight Service.

From September through June, our minister, Rev. William Zelazny, conducts the services two Sundays each month and is often involved in some way with a third service. On other Sundays, services are led by guest preachers, guest speakers or members of our congregation, including the Religious Education classes.

During the summer months, our services are lay led and include a wide range of guest speakers, special programs and music.

Music at Channing

Music is an integral part of our worship at Channing, helping set the tone and lend meaning to the worship experience.  Our music includes a wide variety of offerings from classical to contemporary, popular, rock, folk, jazz, and spirituals. The Channing Choir, under the direction of Janet Grant, Channing’s Music Director, sings usually three times each month from September to early June. Congregation members and guest musicians and vocalists provide additional music throughout the year. Our services also include congregational singing each Sunday.

The Channing Choir is open to anyone who likes to sing and is willing to rehearse, generally on Sunday morning before and following the service.

Other opportunities to participate in the music program include providing instrumental or vocal performances for service elements such as the preludes, musical interludes, offertories and postludes.  We welcome solos, duets, and ensembles from guest musicians of all ages.  If you sing or play an instrument and would like to participate at a service, please contact Janet: music@channingchurch.org
